Dancing in the Moonlight Inspiration

In 1969, musician Sherman Kelly-later a member of the band King Harvest-and his girlfriend were brutally attacked by a gang while vacationing on St. Croix in the U.S. Virgin Islands. In 1970, as he recovered, Kelly wrote "Dancing in the Moonlight," imagining an idyllic, joyful night he wished the night had looked like, the opposite of the violence he had endured.
