Triatomine Bug

Triatomine Bug

Triatomine bugs, or kissing bugs, attack sleeping humans-often feeding on their faces. After biting and ingesting blood, they defecate near the wound, transferring Trypanosoma cruzi parasites that cause Chagas disease. This illness, which can remain undetected for years, eventually leads to heart failure and is responsible for over 12,000 deaths annually.
