Human Botfly

Native to Central and South America, the botfly lays eggs on mosquitoes, which then deposit them on human skin. The larvae burrow underneath and live off human tissue, leaving a breathing hole in the skin. They grow under the surface until mature, then emerge as bumblebee-like flies. Removal often involves suffocating the larvae with meat or petroleum jelly to coax it out.
