In 1937, a 29-year-old woman named Laetitia Toureaux boarded an empty carriage on Paris Metro Line 8, and witnesses at Porte Doree found her fatally stabbed less than 90 seconds later. No witness saw anyone enter or leave the carriage, and investigators never determined how the killer escaped. Police later uncovered Toureaux's double life as a factory worker, dance-hall attendant, and spy hired to infiltrate the far-right terrorist group La Cagoule. Authorities dropped the case when World War II began in 1939, leaving the first murder committed on the Paris Metro unsolved.
