Tax Returns Arrive Already Pre-Filled

Over the last two decades, tax administrations worldwide have increasingly used third-party information to fill in personal income tax returns before taxpayers review and submit them. In 2023, 87.7% of surveyed administrations offered some form of pre-filling. China goes further by automatically completing more than 85% of the information needed for VAT credit refund applications. The US Internal Revenue Service, however, does not provide taxpayers with pre-filled individual income tax returns.
