Dawa Sherpa Survives Six Days

In May 2026, a 57-year-old Nepali guide named Dawa Sherpa was presumed dead after his supplemental oxygen ran out near Camp 3, roughly 7,500 meters up Mount Everest. He survived six days alone, first going without food and then chewing ice and eating chocolates he discovered in his pocket. After falling into a crevasse, he remained trapped for two and a half days until an avalanche filled it with enough snow for him to escape. While his family began funeral rites in Kathmandu, a cleaning team found him crawling near the Khumbu Icefall and had him airlifted to a hospital with dehydration, frostbite, and a fractured bone.
