In July 2022, a 7-year-old boy named Liam Fisher, his brother Jessin, and their cousin Kaiden Madsen discovered a rare juvenile T. rex fossil while hiking in the North Dakota Badlands. Paleontologist Tyler Lyson identified the dinosaur from its teeth, then returned with the children and a Denver Museum of Nature and Science crew to excavate it in 2023. Nicknamed "Teen Rex," the 12-to-14-year-old dinosaur is one of only four young T. rex fossils ever found, according to Lyson.
