Blondie's Rapture Takes Rap Mainstream

The first single featuring rap vocals to top the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 was Blondie's "Rapture." Released in 1981, the new wave, disco, and hip-hop crossover spent two weeks at number one. Debbie Harry later said that members of groups including Wu-Tang Clan and Mobb Deep told her it was the first rap song they had heard.
