The first gymnast to receive a perfect Olympic score was 14-year-old Romanian Nadia Comaneci during her uneven-bars routine at the 1976 Montreal Games. Because officials had assured scoreboard manufacturer Omega that a perfect 10.00 was impossible, its three-digit display could not show the score and instead flashed 1.00. Comaneci went on to earn six more perfect scores at the Games and win three gold medals.
