In 1578, English explorer Martin Frobisher and his crew held what became known as Canada's first Thanksgiving while searching for the Northwest Passage. After surviving the dangerous Arctic expedition, they praised God for bringing them to safety. Their ceremony occurred 43 years before the Pilgrims held their better-known Thanksgiving at Plymouth in 1621.
