Hillary Expedition Found Bear Fur

Hillary Expedition Found Bear Fur

In 1960, New Zealand mountaineer Sir Edmund Hillary led an expedition into the Himalayas to search for evidence of the yeti. The team returned with two scraps of fur that local people identified as "yeti fur." Scientists later identified both scraps as pieces of a Tibetan blue bear pelt, belonging to one of the world's rarest bear subspecies.
