Gerard Butler Improvised Sparta's Scream

The iconic "This is Sparta!" line from 300 began much quieter than audiences remember. After delivering it in a low, monotone growl for several takes, actor Gerard Butler asked director Zack Snyder to let him try one more version and unleashed the now-famous scream. The exaggerated performance caused the other actors to hide their laughter, but Snyder considered it over the top and "awesome," which is why that take was included in the finished film.
