Clela Rorex Licensed Same-Sex Marriage

On March 26, 1975, Boulder County clerk Clela Rorex issued the first same-sex marriage license in the United States to Dave McCord and Dave Zamora. Colorado law did not specify that marriage had to be between a man and a woman, and the district attorney confirmed that Rorex could decide whether to grant the license. When a man named Roswell "Ross" Howard later asked to marry his horse, Dolly, Rorex rejected his request because the eight-year-old horse was underage and lacked written consent from her parents.
