Eisenhower's Failure Note Accepted Blame

General Dwight D. Eisenhower prepared a brief alternate message in case the D-Day invasion failed, accepting full responsibility for ordering the attack. He wrote that the decision to attack at that time and place was his, while the troops, air forces, and navy had done everything bravery and devotion to duty allowed.
