Swiss mathematician Leonhard Euler remained extraordinarily prolific even after becoming almost completely blind, producing nearly half his life's work after returning to St. Petersburg in 1766. When he died in 1783, the St. Petersburg Academy of Sciences inherited a massive backlog of his unpublished papers. The academy continued publishing them for nearly 50 years, extending Euler's output almost half a century beyond his death.
