James I Blocked His Escape

James I Blocked His Escape

King James I of Scotland enjoyed playing tennis at Blackfriars Monastery in Perth, but so many balls rolled into an old drainage passage that he ordered workers to block it. Three days later, on February 20, 1437, assassins entered the monastery to murder him. James tried to escape through the drain, but his own blockage trapped him, allowing the assassins to find and kill him.
