Henry II Imprisoned Eleanor Instead

In 1173, King Henry II's sons Henry the Young King, Richard, and Geoffrey launched a revolt against him, while their mother, Eleanor of Aquitaine, encouraged her vassals to support them. Henry's forces captured Eleanor as she traveled toward Paris to join her sons and secretly confined her. After defeating the revolt, Henry forgave his sons under the Treaty of Montlouis in 1174 but kept Eleanor under varying degrees of house arrest for nearly 16 years. She regained her freedom only after Henry died in 1189 and Richard became king.
