Train Engineers Face Three Fatalities

On average, U.S. locomotive engineers are involved in three fatalities over the course of a career. Because a train can require a mile or more to stop, engineers sometimes have no way to prevent a collision after a person enters the train's path. Such incidents can leave engineers deeply traumatized, and most railways offer counseling afterward.
