Suffolk Preserves Humanity's Earliest Firemaking

The earliest known evidence anywhere in the world of humans deliberately making fire comes from Suffolk, England, and dates to about 400,000 years ago. A 2025 study identified the evidence and described it as the earliest known example of humans creating fire rather than simply using naturally occurring flames.
