Red Dwarfs Have Never Died

Astronomers have never observed a red dwarf star dying because the universe has not existed long enough for any to reach an advanced stage of evolution. Their low mass allows them to burn hydrogen extremely slowly, giving some predicted lifespans of trillions of years. A red dwarf with one-tenth the Sun's mass could keep burning for about 10 trillion years before eventually evolving toward a white dwarf.
