Sigil Satirized TSR Office Politics

In the 1990s, TSR introduced Sigil as the central city of the Dungeons & Dragons Planescape setting. American game designer Monte Cook later said that creator Zeb Cook designed much of Sigil as a metaphorical version of TSR itself, with the city ruled by the fearsome Lady of Pain. Cook joked that her gaze could kill either a person or a TSR product, reflecting the power TSR CEO Lorraine Williams and company management held over projects.
