Schoolcraft Recorded NYPD Quota Corruption

Schoolcraft Recorded NYPD Quota Corruption

In 2008 and 2009, New York City police officer Adrian Schoolcraft secretly recorded his fellow NYPD officers and supervisors for 17 months while working in Brooklyn’s 81st Precinct. His recordings captured supervisors tying ticket, stop-and-frisk, and arrest numbers to discipline, even though state law barred illegal quotas. The tapes also documented illegal arrests and claims that serious crimes were downgraded, ignored, or kept out of the system to protect crime statistics. After the recordings became public, the scandal led to several removals and four investigations of the NYPD.
