China Sends Officials To Prison Tours

China uses prison tours as an anti-corruption warning for officials, senior state-owned enterprise managers, and sometimes their families. Senior officials from the visit prisons because the Communist Party’s Central Commission considers their posts “high-risk.” During the tours, imprisoned former officials talk about how corruption ruined their careers and hurt their families. Up to 2014, nearly 340,000 officials had visited Beijing Prison since the anti-corruption education tours began in 2008.
