In 2013, Martin Scorsese's The Wolf of Wall Street was financed by Red Granite Pictures, a company co-founded by film producer Riza Aziz, the stepson of Malaysian prime minister Najib Razak. U.S. prosecutors later alleged that Red Granite used more than $100 million unlawfully diverted from Malaysia's 1MDB state fund to make the film. The scandal tied a movie about financial fraud to a real corruption case, and Red Granite agreed in 2018 to pay $60 million to settle U.S. forfeiture claims.
