Qian Built China's Rocket Program

Chinese rocket scientist Qian Xuesen studied at MIT and Caltech, became a leading expert in aerodynamics and engineering, and contributed to the Manhattan Project during World War II. During the Red Scare of the 1950s, the U.S. government accused him of communist sympathies, placed him under house arrest, and ultimately deported him to China in 1955. There, Qian became the driving force behind China's missile and space programs, earning the title "Father of Chinese Rocketry."
