Danish astronomer Tycho Brahe owned an estate so wealthy that his income amounted to about one percent of Denmark's total wealth. After losing part of his nose in a duel with a fellow nobleman while he was a student, he wore a prosthetic nose made of metal, maybe even gold. Brahe also kept a pet moose that attended parties at his estate, but according to a contemporary account, the animal drank too much beer at one gathering, fell down a flight of stairs, and died from its injuries.
