French physicist Marc-Antoine Fardin published a paper arguing that cats exhibit the properties of both solids and liquids, citing photographs of cats comfortably conforming to the shapes of jars, baskets, sinks, and salad bowls. He applied the principles of rheology, the study of how matter flows and deforms, to explain the unusual behavior. In 2017, Fardin received the Ig Nobel Prize in Physics for this research.
