Martin Couney's Incubator Baby Shows

Martin Couney's Incubator Baby Shows

For approximately 40 years, Martin Couney, the inventor of incubators, operated infant incubator exhibits that showcased premature babies to the public. He charged parents nothing for the care and instead funded the operation by charging visitors 25 cents for admission. At a time when many hospitals refused to treat premature infants, Couney's efforts saved the lives of thousands of babies who otherwise had little chance of survival.
