The Onion Skipped September 11

On September 11, 2001, The Onion did not publish its scheduled print newspaper. The staff also skipped the following issue, and employees took a week-long break as they struggled with whether satire had any place after the tragedy. Some staffers reportedly threatened to quit if the publication released an issue about the attacks. The Onion eventually returned with a September 26, 2001, issue that addressed 9/11 through dark satire.
