Ray Burton, the father of Metallica bassist Cliff Burton, used Cliff’s royalties from the band’s first three albums to fund scholarships at Castro Valley High School. Cliff had attended the school before his death, and Ray wanted his son’s name to continue helping young people. For 30 years, he used the royalties to put students through college and keep Cliff’s legacy alive in a practical way.
