Idris Elba Hid English Accent

While auditioning for "The Wire," British actor Idris Elba hid his English accent from series creator David Simon to prove he was "American enough" for the role. Elba maintained his act throughout several auditions, but Simon discovered the truth during his fourth audition. By then, Elba had already impressed him enough to win the part of Stringer Bell.
