Porgs Replaced Ireland’s Real Puffins

Porgs appeared in "Star Wars: The Last Jedi" because the crew filmed on Skellig Michael in Ireland, where puffins were already part of the landscape. The production could not simply remove all the birds from the island during filming. Instead, the filmmakers turned the problem into a creature design, replacing the puffins with porgs in the final movie.
