In 2006, a woman named Lydia Angyiou, described as "5 feet nothing and 90 lbs on a wet day," saved her two sons and their friends from a 700-pound polar bear in Ivujivik, Quebec. The children were playing street hockey when the bear moved toward them, and Angyiou put herself between the animal and the kids. She wrestled and fought the bear for several minutes until a local man saw the attack, returned with a rifle, and shot the bear. Angyiou survived the attack.
