Thailand Defied Abbott Over Kaletra

In 2007, Thailand legally issued a compulsory license to make cheaper generic versions of Abbott’s HIV drug Kaletra. Abbott responded by withdrawing 7 medicines that it had planned to launch in Thailand, but Thailand held firm, and the move helped expand HIV treatment coverage to hundreds of thousands more patients.
