Comus Krewe Refused Integration Rules

The Mistick Krewe of Comus, the oldest active organization affiliated with New Orleans Mardi Gras, has not marched in the parade since 1991 because it refused to let non-white people join. That year, New Orleans passed an ordinance requiring Carnival organizations to certify that they did not discriminate by race, religion, gender, disability, or sexual orientation. Comus chose to withdraw from public parading instead of complying, but it continued holding its private ball.
