Eva Ibbotson’s Platform Potter Parallels

British author Eva Ibbotson published "The Secret of Platform 13" in 1994, three years before "Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone." The book features a boy of magical lineage who lives in an abusive home with a spoiled child, while a hidden route to the magical world opens through a platform at King’s Cross Station. Those similarities later drew comparisons to Harry Potter, especially because Rowling’s series also used King’s Cross as the gateway to its magical world.
