Until 2013, "Shark Tank" contracts required contestants to give the show’s production company either 5% equity or 2% of profits, even if they left without a deal. Mark Cuban pushed back and told ABC’s lawyers he would not return unless they removed the clause. Cuban later said the rule was removed retroactively, freeing past contestants from the commitment too.
