Scrubs Janitor Was Almost Imaginary

In the first season of "Scrubs," creator Bill Lawrence wrote the Janitor so he mostly interacted only with Zach Braff’s J.D. because he had a backup twist ready if NBC canceled the show. Lawrence planned to reveal that Neil Flynn’s Janitor existed only in J.D.’s imagination. After "Scrubs" survived into season 2, Lawrence dropped the idea and let the Janitor interact more clearly with other characters, including Donald Faison’s Turk.
