Top Gear’s Mexico Insult Backfired

In 2011, Mexican ambassador Eduardo Medina-Mora Icaza complained to the BBC after British presenter Richard Hammond called Mexicans “lazy, feckless, flatulent, and overweight” on "Top Gear." Hammond made the remark during a segment about the Mexican sports car Mastretta, while co-hosts Jeremy Clarkson and James May also mocked Mexico and Mexican food. Medina-Mora demanded a public apology, calling the comments xenophobic, offensive, and humiliating.
