American silent film actress Dolores Costello, the grandmother of American actress Drew Barrymore, spoke with a lisp that made the shift from silent films to talking pictures difficult. After 2 years of voice coaching, Costello became more comfortable speaking before a microphone, but her career slowed as sound films changed Hollywood. Her granddaughter, Drew Barrymore, also became known for having a lisp.
