Two Apollo missions deployed seismic experiments that included a rocket grenade launcher designed to fire explosive charges as far as 1,500 meters from the seismometers. On Apollo 14, none of the four grenades were ever fired, and on Apollo 16, engineers fired three shots but chose not to fire the fourth after an instrument problem. That left five grenades still sitting on the Moon, unfired.
