Quasar Water Cloud: 140 Trillion Oceans

Scientists have found an enormous cloud of water vapor floating in space around a quasar more than 12 billion light-years away. This reservoir holds at least 140 trillion times the water in Earth’s oceans, wrapped around a supermassive black hole that is actively feeding. The team detected the vapor because the quasar’s intense energy keeps the water gas warm and dense enough to stand out across cosmic distances.
