A BRUE, or brief, resolved, unexplained event, is when an infant under 1 year old suddenly stops breathing, turns pale or blue, goes limp, or becomes unresponsive, and then quickly returns to normal. The episode is defined specifically by the fact that doctors cannot find a cause even after a full medical history and examination. The symptoms can look life-threatening, yet in otherwise healthy infants, they often never happen again.
