Parry-Romberg syndrome is a rare disorder where one side of the face gradually shrinks as the skin, fat, and underlying tissue waste away over time. The condition usually begins in childhood or adolescence and can progress for years before eventually stabilizing, often leaving permanent facial asymmetry. Doctors have observed possible links to autoimmune or neurological factors, but no single confirmed cause has ever been identified. There is also no proven way to stop or prevent the progression once it begins.
