Yukon Camel Ancestors Roamed North

Camels once lived in Canada’s far north, not just in the deserts of Asia and Africa. Scientists identified the Yukon giant camel from fossils dating to about 3.5 million years ago, showing that this ancient animal was an ancestor of the camels living today. The discovery pushed camel history deep into Arctic North America, where these animals survived in a very different environment from the one modern camels now occupy.
