When Lex Luthor debuted in Action Comics #23 (1940), DC drew him with a full head of red hair, not the iconic bald look everyone recognizes. Less than a year later, a studio artist named Leo Nowak mistakenly drew Luthor as bald in the Superman newspaper strip, and that version carried over into the comics in Superman #10 (May 1941). Comics historians speculate the mistake likely happened because Nowak confused Luthor with a stockier bald henchman from earlier Superman stories, and DC just kept the error because it worked.
