Fleischer Cartoons Gave Superman Flight

In the early comics, Superman did not fly; he just made huge jumps, which the animators worried would look awkward on screen. When Fleischer Studios started the 1940s Superman cartoons, they asked for permission to have him fly instead because it would animate cleaner than constant leaping. After that, Superman’s flight stuck, and it eventually became one of his standard powers across the franchise.
