In 1990, English writer Neil Gaiman introduced Timothy Hunter in DC’s "The Books of Magic," a boy who wears glasses and loses his mother when he is young. He then learns he is destined to become a powerful wizard, which yanks him out of a normal life and into a much bigger magical world. He even keeps a pet owl. These details later caused people to do double-takes when "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone" was released seven years later.
