American writer Jerry Siegel and Canadian American artist Joe Shuster, both Jewish, created Superman, and later writers gave him the Kryptonian name Kal-El, with “El” tied to the Hebrew word for God and the full name often loosely framed as “the voice of God.” A lot of the symbolism lines up even more cleanly with Moses, since Superman escapes a doomed world as a baby sent away to survive and grow up among strangers.
