Dave Fleischer's $100K Superman Bluff

In 1940, Paramount asked Fleischer Studios to make a Superman cartoon, and the studio figured the project would be too difficult and too expensive to animate well. To scare Paramount off, Dave Fleischer quoted $100,000 per short, roughly four times what an average cartoon cost. To their shock, Paramount agreed to the budget.
